At Davis Legacy, we’ve all interacted with Davis AYSO at some point and appreciated the alternative offerings they provided to City of Davis residents to grow the game of soccer.

Many of our staff, including club founder Ashley Yudin, who helped found Davis AYSO, have played, coached, or served in administrative roles in the program.

This program was the largest recreational offering in the city and enabled players and coaches to get involved in the game at the grassroots level at a relatively low cost, a feature that proved valuable to the community for nearly five decades.

Until earlier this week, when it was announced that Davis AYSO would cease operations, and while AYSO’s national leadership still hopes to have a foothold in the community, it was decided that that wouldn’t be feasible for this fall season at the very least.

Davis Legacy believes this is a huge blow to the community–Davis AYSO arrived in the city nearly 10 years before we did, and always served as a counterbalance to our competitive offerings, ensuring that everyone in Davis who wanted to play the beautiful game had the opportunity to do so.

That is why we would like to extend the offer to anyone who planned on playing for Davis AYSO in the fall to join our recreational program.

Modeled on the same volunteer-run, low-cost basis that helped Davis AYSO thrive for half a century, Davis Legacy’s recreational program started four years ago and has steadily grown as Legacy has looked to build its membership and begin to build out more opportunities for locals to play at our beautiful facilities on the outskirts of the city.

Anyone who wishes to play this fall will be accepted, with registration and uniform fees totaling $90 for a full season that runs from early August to early November.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and we believe everyone should be able to play. Losing Davis AYSO will have a massive impact on the community, but hopefully, while the organization works to regain its position in the city, we can provide a stopgap measure so everyone can play at the recreational level.
