As the spring season comes to an end, Davis Legacy Soccer Club will see yet another class of graduating seniors move onto the next adventures in their lives.
Overall, 57 different players make up Davis Legacy’s 2024 class, having spent a total of 284 years playing for the club combined–an average of roughly five years per player.
“We’re really thankful for the time, commitment, and effort the players have shown,” said Legacy Executive Director David Robertson. “We’re happy to be a small part of their development on and off the field. I have no doubt that these kids are going to be successful at whatever they’re doing. We’d love to see them back at the club someday, whether it be coaching, playing, cheering, or parenting. Hopefully we will see them come back in future.”
For some, this represents the next step in their soccer careers as 34 of the players (59.6 percent) have signed on to play soccer in college, while others will take the lessons learned at the club and utilize them in academics–98 percent plan to attend college next year.
Either way, Legacy hopes that they continue to play or support the game in some manner.
“We’re not benchmarking people’s success at the club whether or not they’re playing at the college level, but we hope they’re still playing at some level to continue their lifelong passion for the game,” Robertson said.
Overall, nearly every player will attend college next year, with 33 different universities represented at both the two-year and four-year levels.
Staying in California, four Legacy graduates are headed to Cal Poly, while a further three have been admitted to UCLA.
Other schools where multiple soon-to-be Legacy alums plan to attend are Chico State, Sacramento State, San Diego State, Sonoma State, UC Davis, and UC San Diego.
And while Davis has sent four girls to play for Stanford in the past five years, Jordan Victor is headed to Palo Alto to represent the Cardinal as the first boy from the club in quite some time.
Upon seeing their time as a youth player come to an end, each Legacy graduate was asked to describe their favorite memory in their time at the club.
While some picked different tournaments or competitions they won, some responded with the little things that Davis Legacy hopes to provide in every player’s development.
“We had a game at Legacy after it rained a lot,” said Grace Vojkufka, who plans to play at American River College under Legacy coach Paul Arellanes. “It was so muddy and there were a lot of puddles so after the game we all slid on our stomachs across the middle of the field.”
Meanwhile, Grace Fabionar, who will play at Cal State Stanislaus in the fall, enjoyed the “summer trainings with pretty sunsets and my favorite people.”
Perhaps the most intriguing answer, though, came from future ARC player Steven Massello.
“(My favorite Legacy memory was) just playing with my friends,” he said.
