Davis Legacy U10 Boys

United Wins Placer United Invitational

July 27th, 2010

The Davis Legacy United, U10 Boys, a competitive soccer team, won the Championship game in the Placer United Invitational Tournament last weekend. This comes off of a heartbreaking loss in penalty kicks in last year’s final in the same tournament. On Saturday, they beat both River City ’00 by a score of 10-1 and then Walnut Creek United 6-0. Davis had amazing play by all the team including: Giacomo Sorrentino, who was solid throughout the tournament; Elijah Alba who was stellar in defense and midfield attacking; Ryan Hulbert, who was an attacking midfielder and was invaluable as a sweeping defender too and Aaron Mayr, who was, as usual, a top-quality defender. Jonah Henrickson played many positions well and made several amazing saves as goalkeeper, allowing Davis to maintain the lead. Ethan Park played midfielder and forward and played key roles in defense and attacking for Davis.

On Sunday, Davis beat the Elk Grove Academy Jets 2-1 in a hard fought match, which allowed them to advance to Sunday afternoon’s final where they faced the Walnut Creek Legends. In the final, Davis scored first with a Matt Martinez counter-attack goal that slammed off the inside left post. Davis went up 2-0 when Tyson Duncan sent in a beautiful corner that was knocked down in the box and finished off by Ledger Petracek. In the second half, the Walnut Creek Legends almost scored, but were denied by Duncan on a great save, but finally scored in the last minute making the score 2-1 Davis.

Over the four games, Davis scored 20 goals and gave up only 3. It was a true team win with seven of the nine players on the team scoring a goal and all nine players contributing a goal or an assist. Elijah Alba, Matt Martinez and Ledger Petrachek led the way 4 goals apiece; Giacomo Sorrentino added 3 goals playing most of the weekend at left defense. Tyson Duncan led the team with 3 assists and added two goals. Jonah Henrickson added two goals; Ethan Park one goal; and Ryan Hulbert and Aaron Mayr each had an assist.
