Millennium wins the Mustang Girls Stampede

The Davis Legacy Millennium, a U11 Girls competitive soccer team, went undefeated and took first place in the Gold Division at the prestigious Mustang Girls Stampede Tournament.

Davis began the tournament with a 5 – 0 victory against the Gryphon’s.  Davis slowly wore down the Gryphons eventually sealing the victory in the second half.  Brooke Rubinstein got the offense rolling with three goals.  Ava McCray and Andrea Zheng both added a goal each, while excellent midfield play by Juliet Sanders, Andie Salazar, Alicia Arana, Lisa Howard, Hanna Bretschneider and Peyton Petracek allowed Davis to dominate possession for most of the game.  Friday afternoon, Davis continued their magnificent play with a 5 – 1 victory against the ISC Gunners.  Outstanding goal keeping from Khalida Pergher, and stanch defense by Ava McCray, Paige Rubinstein, and Tessa Malone allowed Davis to apply constant pressure on ISC throughout the game.

On the second day of the tournament, Davis continued their excellent form with a 5 – 0 victory against the Mustang Samba.  Five different players scored for Davis in this match including Paige Rubinstein, Ava McCray, Hanna Bretschneider, Alicia Arana, and Peyton Petracek.  Saturday afternoon, in the quarterfinals, Davis continued their aggressive play upending the Walnut Creek Storm 5 – 0.  Brooke Rubinstein and Peyton Patracek provided the offense while Davis’s defense continued their hot streak of shutting down their opponent’s attack.

On the final day of the tournament Davis played against San Juan Blue in the semi-final match.  After a slow start, Davis began to open up the field and create opportunities.  A beautiful run and cross by Brook Rubinstein late in the first half led to the first goal of the game by Hanna Bretschneider.  In the second half, Davis finally put away the match after Lisa Howard sent a cross over the head of the San Juan goal keeper to an onrushing Alicia Arana who put it in the back of the net giving Davis the 2 – 0 win.  Khalida Pergher continued her outstanding play in goal making some crucial stops to preserve the shutout victory.  Sunday afternoon in the championship match against SCA Black, Davis was able to maintain their aggressive play and great team work.  Lisa Howard scored three goals and Peyton Petracek scored one, while Tessa Malone, Paige Rubinstein, and Ava McCray continued their magnificent defensive work.  Juliet Sanders, Andie Salazar, Andrea Zheng, Hanna Bretschneider, Brooke Rubinstein and Alicia Arana all provided crucial minutes on the field and helped Davis cap off a successful weekend with a 4 – 0 victory.
